Bedminster & Southville

Welcome to the Bedminster & Southville Hub

St Monica Trust has been a proud partner of LinkAge in Bedminster, Southville and Ashton for over 8 years. In that time, we have achieved a fantastic amount of community development to enable the reduction of isolation and loneliness amongst older people in the area. We have achieved this through working in partnership with a host of different local organisations, sharing the vision to help older people live more fulfilled lives. LinkAge is funded through St Monica Trust's Community Fund, which in addition provides financial aid to individuals in need and also funds some local groups directly supporting local older people.

Although a large part of what St Monica Trust does is running its own retirement villages, we don't see these as seperate to the communities in which they are situated and want the people living around our communities to feel part of what is going on and to take advantage of what we have to offer. Monica Wills House is an example of where the some of the Trust's facilities are available to local older people, with LinkAge helping this to become a reality. Examples of this partnership approach are the Bristol Area Stroke Foundation and the Greater Bedminster Older People's Forum. These partnerships give our residents the ability to engage with and take part in their local community, whether that be through direct volunteering, joining a support group or joining a group advising what should be happening locally.

get involved

We are always looking for enthusiastic and knowledgable individuals to help run LinkAge's Bedminster and Southville hub. Below are several different opportunities that you can get involved in. Whether you have an hour or a day to spare, we will hopefully be able to find something extremely worthwhile for you to be involved with.

Bedminster Advisory Group needs new members. LinkAge's Advisory Groups are made up of local older people who provide great insight into their community, helping to inform and advise LinkAge on what can be done to help build community spirit, through activities and events. Please contact Dan Lewin on 0117 305 2365 if you'd like to find out more.

LinkAge also runs a Befriending Scheme for isolated older people in the Greater Bedminster area. If you know someone who would benefit from Befriending or if you'd like to volunteer as a Befriender then please call Karen Bennett on 0117 305 2365.

Love to walk? Fancy volunteering to become a LinkAge walk leader and lead walks for older people? LinkAge is always looking for new Walk Leaders to join our team. Full training is provided. Please contact Dan Lewin on 0117 305 2365 to find out more.

Do you love to paint, have a passion for singing or perhaps you're a keen cook or gardener? If so, why not share your skill with us? This could be setting up an activity or volunteering at an existing one, there is always a way for you to get involved. Contact 0117 305 2365 to find out more.
