Volunteer Opportunities with WE Care & Repair SIlverlinks Project

Volunteers wanted to provide support to older people making decisions about their home.

West of England Care & Repair's new Silverlinks Project is looking for older people facing life-changing housing and care decisions (e.g. having to repair, adapt or move out of their home) who would benefit from their new peer support project. The lottery-funded Silverlinks project focuses on linking up people over 50 – undergoing these significant life changes – with those who’ve already been through these changes and come out the other end successfully.

“The right home and environment is critical to keeping your independence in later life,” explained Judy Mead, WE Care & Repair’s Silverlinks  Development  Worker, “We know older people really value talking to someone who is totally impartial  who can offer a listening ear and share their personal experience of having house repairs or adaptations or who have gone through the process of deciding 'should I stay or should I go?' They will also be able to tell people about WE Care & Repair's services. Silverlinks is about linking older people, who’ve already gone through life changing housing situations, with those facing the same dilemmas.”

The project is looking for people who would benefit from being linked up and supported by a volunteer aged over 50, who has personal experience of moving or having  repairs or adaptations done on their house .

Silverlinks are also looking for more volunteers. If you would like to find out more, or if you know someone who might benefit from the project, please contact Judy Mead, Silverlinks Project Development Worker at WE Care & Repair on Tel: 0300 323 0700  or email judy.mead@wecr.org.uk, you can also find out more by visiting www.wecr.org.uk
